I never started my business with the goal of reaching 1 million subscribers.
Honestly, I only started Pronunciation with Emma as a way to help my students practise British English pronunciation at home. At the time, there was hardly any useful, in-depth content online. All the videos were vague, confusing — or focused on American English.
And that was a problem.
Most English teachers hadn’t been trained in pronunciation theory. So most students weren’t taught the correct sounds from the start! (That’s probably why you’re here, right?) As a British pronunciation expert, I wanted to change that. So I did what my students had been encouraging me to do for YEARS and set up a YouTube channel.
I was terrified!! 😱
But then I began sharing my simple, fun and super useful pronunciation tricks. My fear disappeared, and I became determined to help more people speak effortlessly in English. Since then? My community has grown to reach 1 million AMAZING people from around the world.
Who knows… maybe you’ll be 1 million and one? 😉

I’m from Yorkshire
So… I KNOW how it feels when people don’t understand your accent!
Just like you, I had to learn sounds that don’t exist where I come from so that my students (and even native speakers from different parts of England!) could understand me. 😅
I’m always learning new languages
I speak Spanish and understand Catalan fluently, and I’ve learnt British Sign Language, French, German, Japanese and Portuguese.
WHY? 🤣 So I can always remind myself of the challenges of learning a language and understand exactly what my students are going through.
I live in Barcelona
I moved here from England in 2022, and I’m forced to step out of my comfort zone every single day.
It can be challenging (as you probably know) but it’s also made me grow as a person — and as a teacher! 💚
I have the cutest dog ever
Freya was just a tiny accidental unwanted puppy when I met her, but now she’s become my best friend and a much-loved guest on my YouTube channel.
